Production of beer has ceased at Wickwar Brewery, in Gloucestershire, after 30 years, the company has announced.

The Wickwar and Moles (which Wickwar Wessex Brewing Co acquired in 2017) ales have been acquired by the Wickwar Wessex Pub Company, which will have them contract brewed.

In a company statement, Wickwar Brewing said: “After 30 enjoyable years of brewing in Wickwar, we are sorry to confirm that we have made the decision to cease ale production at Wickwar brewery. This has been an incredibly difficult, emotional, and painful decision, but is unavoidable given the impact of the pandemic.”

In the run-up to Christmas and ahead of the New Year, the Wickwar Christmas Ale Shop is being operated by the pub company in the old brewery shop premises. Here visitors will find a range of Wickwar draught and bottled ales.

Despite the end of brewing in Wickwar and the closure of the brewing company, the acquisition of the brands by Wickwar Wessex Pub Company means that the ales will remain on sale to customers via all 13 Wickwar pubs, local free houses, and various retailers.
