Sharp’s Brewery has announced that Doom Bar will sponsor the Cornish All Blacks — Launceston Rugby Club — until 2020.

The brewery is a committed supporter of grassroots rugby in Cornwall and is currently sponsoring as many as seven rugby clubs around the county.

Launceston RFC is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary and the sponsorship package from Sharp’s Brewery includes Doom Bar-branded rugby post protectors, feather flags, striking pitch branding, and PR support.

In addition, the club is receiving 600 Doom Bar-branded reusable plastic pint cups as an incentive to reduce plastic waste, with spectators and club visitors paying a deposit of £1 during matches and events. The sum will be paid back in full upon the return of the pint cup and should immediately and dramatically reduce the amount of single-use plastics at the Cornish rugby club.

Launceston 1st and 2nd XV players have also been hard at work raising money for Prostate Cancer UK with the creation of a special calendar, which has proven to be extremely popular. The calendar was created in support of Crispin Earle, a key member of the Cornish All Black support team, who was diagnosed with the condition last year. The cost for each calendar is £10 and can be purchased from the Greenaways Garage, Flower Scene, Rocks Locks and at the rugby club. All profits will go directly to Prostate Cancer UK.

‘Local support is incredibly important’

David Baker, bar secretary at Launceston Rugby Club, said: “We’re really excited to be working alongside Sharp’s Brewery, especially as we are going through a real tipping point moment that could lead us to once again be climbing the league pyramid.

“One of our greatest achievements was receiving a promotion to National League Division Three in 1999/2000 and we’re hoping to see that happen again this year. The local support that we get is incredibly important and we all appreciate Sharp’s Brewery’s contribution.”

Dai Griffiths, commercial director at Sharp’s Brewery, added: “Launceston Rugby Club could potentially accomplish something big in terms of local rugby, and everyone over at our brewery in Rock has got fingers and toes crossed for a successful climb. Seeing grassroots rugby clubs evolve and develop is something we are excited to be part of, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Cornish All Blacks.”

Launceston Rugby Club will play its final match of the season on Saturday, April 13, against Lydney RFC, and welcomes everyone to come and support the team in this crucial game.
