Sharp’s Brewery has officially launched its first cook book, entitled Just Add Beer, aboard the Jubilee Queen, during the first day of the Padstow Christmas Festival. The launch saw more than 50 specially invited guests, including acclaimed chefs and the Sharp’s team behind the book, gathering together to celebrate the publication.

Just Add Beer is the brainchild of Sharp’s own beer sommelier, Ed Hughes, and communications manager, Rachel Williams, who have been on a mission to encourage the pairing of food and beer for many years.

For the launch celebration, the Jubilee Queen was adorned with Christmas lights, with excerpts from the book on the boat’s walls.

Guests, including chefs Stewart Pate, Tim Barnes, Dez Turland, Ross Geach, Stephane Delourme, Alan Bird and Henk de Villiers Ferreira, as well as drinks expert Tristan Stephenson, enjoyed samples of food and beer pairings from the book created by renowned chefs Zack Hawke, head chef at The Mariners, Jude Kereama, co-owner of Kota in Porthleven, and Paul Ripley.

The book celebrates beer as an ingredient and as a pairing for a variety of recipes, created by top chefs who either live and work in Cornwall, or who have strong links to the Duchy. Local hero and Michelin starred chef Nathan Outlaw has written the foreword.

Ed Hughes, who has appeared on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, introduces readers to beer and food pairing. As well as providing useful knowledge and insight into what makes beer and food so great together, he includes details on beer styles, glassware options, brewing techniques and tasting notes.

He said: “We are so proud to finally be able to celebrate the release of Just Add Beer, and we are truly honoured to have worked with some of the finest names in the Cornish culinary world for our very first cook book.

“Whether you’re throwing a lavish dinner party or an impromptu barbecue, this book demonstrates that there’s a beer for every occasion.

“Just Add Beer opens up for a whole new perspective where wine no longer has to be the first thing we reach for when pairing food with drink.”
