Battersea-based Mondo Brewing Company, London food and drink magazine Foodism, and beer historian Ron Pattinson have collaborated on a beer inspired by the former brewery building Foodism is now based in.

Parliament was brewed at Mondo Brewing Company, just half a mile from the Plough Brewery building in Battersea. Not only was it an exciting journey in terms of historical significance, it also marked Mondo’s return to cask brewing after more than three years.

The team at Foodism filmed the journey, from the early research, to the label design, to the first pour. A short documentary has been created which provides a real insight into the process and highlights the excitement and success of the collaboration.

In the documentary, Parliament, Foodism beer editor, Tom Powell, charts the project’s timeline alongside he team at Mondo. The film features interviews with Powell, Mondo founders Todd Matteson and Tom Palmer, Plough Brewery owner Caroline Marston, and beer historian Ron Pattinson, who explains how he developed the recipe from surprising historic records and discusses the predominant styles of the time in London brewing. It also charts the design of Parliament’s distinctive label, which drew inspiration from key features of the Plough Brewery building, created by Foodism designer Annie Brooks.

Parliament is currently available in select London bars, pubs and bottle shops on cask, and in keg and bottle.

Powell said: “It’s always nice when you discover history right under your feet. The Foodism Beer Club is all about connecting London’s beer lovers with the city’s vibrant brewing scene, and the stories and people who make it one of the world’s best.

“This collaboration was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the heritage of the neighbourhood we call home, as well as forming a stronger bond with one of our closest neighbours and friends in London food and drink.”
