Zudu, a Scotland and China-based company offering a tailored digital marketing strategy to help UK companies break into the Chinese market, has launched an anti-counterfeit service to assist UK exporters maintain the integrity of their products in the fast-growing Chinese market.

Zudu uses QR codes, tracking software and a promotional strategy to protect brands against fake products, control pricing and streamline distribution.

The tracking process involves an immutable labelling system which provides transparency through the supply chain process. At the purchase level, customers can also confirm the authenticity of the product by phone, text message, via WeChat or a website query.

One of Zudu’s clients, Scotland’s Keith Brewery, knows only too well about the issues of counterfeit products in China. Its Snake Venom beer has won a substantial following in China — a following which counterfeiters were keen to capitalise on.

Andrew Chapman, director of sales and marketing at Keith Brewery, said: “We were aware that there at least two, and possibly more, fake, copycat products in the market. Zudu has helped enormously in protecting the integrity of our brand by providing market intelligence, generating more customer demand through a cohesive digital strategy, and setting up the anti-counterfeit solution.”
