Workers at a Budweiser brewery in Lancashire are to be balloted over strike action in support of a dismissed colleague.
Paul Morley, senior health and safety representative at AB InBev’s Salmesbury site, was sacked on June 13 for raising health and safety concerns, according to the GMB Union.
Morley had raised concerns over a management initiative to speed up the brewing process, said the union. He said management had not conducted a proper assessment into fatigue caused by the new process.
GMB regional organiser, Shaun Buckley, said: “Paul Morley has been sacked simply for trying to look after the wellbeing of his colleagues. It’s a disgrace.
“GMB understands management may want to streamline processes — all we ask is they follow the appropriate health and safety assessments in doing so. Now GMB members will have the opportunity to support Paul by voting for strike action.”
AB InBev UK was approached by Beer Today on Friday for a comment.
