A pub that holds the oldest licence in the City of London has been re-opened by Nicholson’s following a major refurbishment.

Williamson's Tavern

Tucked away in Groveland Court, Williamson’s Tavern boasts a rich heritage, dating back to the 1700s. Originally built as the residence for the lord mayors of London, the venue later became a favourite haunt of King William III and Queen Mary.

The grand iron gates at the entrance were a gift from the royal couple to the lord mayor, adding a regal touch to its legacy.

Beneath the tavern is the Martha Bar, nestled in the atmospheric cellar. It is named after Martha, a resident ghost said to roam the pub’s ancient halls.

There’s a fresh new look throughout the pub, with new furniture and a carefully updated interior. Martha’s Bar has been transformed from a dining space into a more traditional, characterful cellar bar. Outside, there’s increased standing space, making it an ideal spot for socialising in the warmer months.
