Sales of Murphy’s stout have soared in the wake of the Guinness shortage, boosted by a marketing campaign by brand owner Heineken.

The company delivered kegs of Murphy’s to London pubs around Christmas, supported by the slogan: “Good things come to those who are waiting.” There was a 632% jumpin on-trade sales in December.
The stout originates in Cork, but is brewed for the British market in Tadcaster. It has been sold to some 500 British pubs, more than double the number of venues in the year previously.
While the Guinness shortage is now being addressed Heineken is hoping that Murphy’s will benefit from an increased interest in and demand for stout generally.
