Pretty Decent Beer Co (PDBC) is expanding its presence in East London with a new taproom in a historic canal-side building by Victoria Park, set to open next Wednesday (4th December).

Pretty Decent taproom

The new venue will feature 14 side-pour taps, offering the largest selection of Czech-style side-pour taps in the UK. Traditionally used for Pilsners, these taps will enhance Pretty Decent’s diverse range of modern beers, from weekly special releases to core favourites like the 4.5% Session IPA, I Could Get Better at T*sco for a Quid.

“We’ve long loved Czech Pilsners. traditionally served with thick, creamy foam that makes them taste ridiculously like holiday beers,” said co-founder James Casey. “Over the years, we’ve experimented with getting that effect on our beers, too.

“Focusing on new ways of serving beer enhances the experience and reflects our deep obsession with the craft — we’re not just throwing in hops for the sake of it!”

The taproom’s space is split into two distinct areas, with a total of 120 covers. There will be a cosy front bar, perfect for quiet pints and date nights, and a lively communal beer hall in the back of the building, which was once a distillery. The latter includes nostalgic touches like an arcade machine and a foosball table.

Inclusivity and accessibility are at the core of Pretty Decent. Guests will find a variety of beer styles, from hazy IPAs to fruit sours, alongside vegan, gluten-free, and alcohol-free options.

The drinks menu also includes a carefully selected wine list from sustainable and low-intervention producers, a cocktail menu, and a few surprises, including ‘Viccy Park Soft Serve’, a unique beer-infused soft-serve ice cream.

The brewery’s weekly First Pour Thursday event will bring freshly-brewed beers to the taproom, often less than 24 hours old, available for £4 a pint. And Pretty Decent’s popular beer and crisp pairings are set to become a regular fixture here, offering combinations like pickled onion Monster Munch with a raspberry sour and stout with Bacon Fries.

Co-founder Sarah Casey added: “The thing we’re most proud of at PD is the people that shape it — and this opening is one we can truly say has everyone’s stamp on it!

“Everything from the bar to the murals on the wall to the wine list has all been built, painted, or selected by people at PDBC, who care deeply about the details. Which left us to paint the ceiling!

“There will be the stand-out PD service people have come to expect from our team, with people who really care about giving everyone a unique experience and making sure they feel welcome the minute they walk in the door!”

Throughout December, food will be provided by some of London’s top street food vendors, served from trucks outside the taproom. In early 2025, the team behind Mexican Seoul will set up a permanent kitchen on site, bringing their new food concept, Seouls of Mischief, to the Pretty Decent kitchen.
