You don’t hear from some people for ages and then there’s a flurry of news. Such is the case with Isle of Arran Brewery today.
A broken boiler severely affected the brewery this year. That has now been repaired and is back in operation, but now the bottling machinery has broken down. Fortunately, beer can be sent to the mainland for bottling.
Thanks to Arran Distillers, the brewer has four whisky barrels worth of Milestone maturing away in its cold room so that Milestone Special Reserve can be released in time for Christmas. This is bottled by hand at the brewery shop in Cladach, so not affected by the breakdown.
Head brewer Yorick Hinchliffe, who has been honing his skills at Brewlab this year, is promising a new batch of Viking-themed beer Valhalla before the end of the year.
“Valhalla is our coffee stout and is a beer that hasn’t been brewed since 2021,” says the brewer. “Valhalla is named after the process we call ‘sending the yeast to Valhalla’, and any of you who have had visited us for a brewery tour in the last few years will know that is a reason to be very excited!”
You can catch up with more at the brewery on their new-look website.
