The Admiralty, Fuller’s flagship pub on Trafalgar Square, London, will be paying homage to Lord Nelson this year with its first ever Trafalgar Day event.

Featuring the Beckenham and Penge Sea Cadets bringing in a rum barrel, readings of the dispatches sent by Nelson as the battle progressed, a full traditional Trafalgar Day dinner with a baron of beef, and sea shanties from The Kings Pond Shantymen, the pub plans to make Trafalgar Day an annual event.

The evening will raise money for RNRMC – the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and is being supported by Wood’s Rum.

Trafalgar Day is celebrated on 21st October every year and is the anniversary of Nelson’s victory over the French and Spanish navies in 1805. It is seen as one of the greatest of all naval victories, with Nelson in command from his flagship, HMS Victory.

The British were outnumbered with 27 ships to 33 enemy ships. At the end of the battle, 20 enemy ships had been lost, while the British lost none. Nelson was fatally wounded at the battle and died before it ended.

“I can’t think of anything better to celebrate here, in the shadow of Nelson’s column, under the gaze of the great man himself,” said Helen Wilson, general manager of The Admiralty.

“The Battle of Trafalgar is a key moment in British history and I’m really excited to be launching our first Trafalgar Day event.”

Tickets cost £85 plus service charge and are available from The Admiralty’s website.
