Verdant Brewing Co has used East Kent Golding hops from Anthony Redsell’s farm in Kent to create Fresh Hop #1, a 4.4% ABV pale ale.
When the Verdant team first visited the farm last year, they were “blown away” by the quality of heritage hops such as East Kent Goldings and Fuggles, as well as newer varieties, including Admiral and Challenger.
The East Kent Goldings, named by Anthony’s great gandfather, were crammed in a van on a return visit to the farm a couple of weeks ago. They were utilised immediately in the new Fresh Hop brew.
“We’re so excited for Verdant to grow alongside Redsell Hops and build several 100% UK ingredient beers around these English hops in the future,” said Verdant yesterday.
“If more hop farmers over here can follow Antony’s lead and approach farming with a similar zest and enthusiasm, then the future looks a little brighter, for sure!
“Our Fresh Hop #1 Cask Pale Ale will be available in pubs around the UK in the next few days.”
