A new bar is set to open in the heart of Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August, run in partnership with Leith-based Newbarns Brewery.
Located at 19-20 Teviot Place, in the former Saboteur venue, Lucky Penny, a Gilded Balloon bar, opens from noon on 31st July until 26th August.
Newbarns have introduced a special Gilded Balloon-themed IPA, Hiya Pals, with pints set to be poured in the Leith Newbarns taproom, at Lucky Penny, and across all Gilded Balloon venue bars at Patter House and the National Museum of Scotland.
Gilded Balloon work with Scottish brands Tennent’s Lager, Newbarns, and Leith Spirits to provide spirits, beer, cider and more across all of their Fringe bars.
“As a local Leith brewery, working with a renowned local Edinburgh Fringe venue such as Gilded Balloon made perfect sense,” said Emma McIntosh, director of Newbarns Brewery.
“We’ve created our bespoke Hiya Pals IPA in collaboration with Gilded Balloon, available exclusively throughout the festival in our brand new perfectly pink cans. We hope Newbarns fans will pop along to the Lucky Penny to sip on some freshly brewed pints this August!”
Katy and Karen Koren, artistic directors of Gilded Balloon, said: “We’re looking forward to throwing open the doors to Lucky Penny and welcoming Fringe fans, performers, and the Fringe community and industry to the brand new space for some Hiya Pals pints in the sun, fresh out of the tap from our pals at Newbarns.”
Abyss Brewing has welcomed Dave from Phantom Brewing to create a 7% ABV IPA collaboration, Cosmic Paradox. The beer is hopped with Mosaic, Citra, and Nelson Sauvin. “Free fall into an eternally dank haze of freshly crushed orchard fruits,” say the brewers.
Waavvy is a 6% ABV West Coast IPA from Drop Project. Lots of juicy tropical notes of El Dorado, the bright citrus burst from Citra, and the earthy, piney depth of Simcoe. “This IPA offers a balanced bitterness and a crisp, clean finish, making it an ideal beer to sip on whilst you watch the summer rain fall,” says the brewer.
