Showerings has released its newest blend of triple vintage cider, made by combining the unique characteristics of the 2021, 2022, and 2023 apple harvests.
This is the brand’s second triple vintage batch. Its inaugural blend used apples from the 2017, 2018, and 2021 harvests.
All apples used by Showerings come from a single award-winning orchard in Somerset.
“Chosen for their light and delicate flavours, these vintages are robust enough to shine on their own, yet when blended and balanced together the result is an elegant cider of exceptional quality, a triple vintage greater than the sum of its parts,” says the cider-maker.
About the vintages
The 2021 vintage emerged from a year of abundant sunshine and average rainfall in August and September, producing high-quality apples with rich sugar content. This vintage is celebrated for its mature character, strong acidity, nuanced tannins, and aged bittersweet notes. Its full-bodied flavour profile makes it a standout grandparent vintage.
Despite extreme temperatures and above-average rainfall in the autumn, the 2022 vintage achieved exceptional maturation. It features a complex flavour profile with distinguished bittersweet notes, a woody aroma, and a soft, lingering aftertaste.
As the second warmest year on record, 2023 offered more moderate conditions to the extremes of 2022, and abundant late summer and autumn rainfall resulted in a plentiful apple harvest. This youngest vintage introduces a refreshing quality with prominent apple top notes, distinctive crispness, and a memorable finish, hinting at its promising potential for further maturation and greatness.
