Showerings Cider has secured a listing at Simon Rogan’s UK restaurants, including the three Michelin-starred L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria.

The cider will also be served at one Michelin-starred Rogan & Co, Henrock, in the Lake District, and Aulis, in London.

“There’s a lovely synergy between the ethos held by my restaurants and Showerings, both of which champion respect for the highest quality produce and the land, and so it’s a real pleasure to offer their triple vintage cider to our guests,” said Simon Rogan, owner and chef at Umbel Restaurants.

“Fine cider pairs brilliantly with food, and it’s becoming increasingly acknowledged as a drink that can be enjoyed with a meal, as an alternative to wine.

“Showerings is a stand-out cider on the market which displays a delicate complexity that works so well with a range of flavours and food, be it my own dishes or with something more informal at home.”

Showerings Cider is already appreciated by some of the UK’s leading chefs, being served at Alain Roux’s Waterside Inn in Bray and at Tom Kerridge’s Hand & Flowers, the only pub in the UK with two Michelin stars. Showerings sponsors the Roux Scholarship 2024, the acclaimed chef contest.

For the past 18 months, Showerings has been looking to redefine the fine cider category. It is an elegantly dry and gently carbonated cider made from a blend of three vintages. Its balance of sharp and sweet tasting notes means it complements most food pairings.

Nick Showering, founder of Showerings Cider, said: “Simon is at the pinnacle of culinary expertise, so to have someone of his stature want to have our cider served alongside his food is brilliant and reflects the care, attention, and originality that goes into every bottle of our triple vintage cider.”

Made using a blend of three vintages spanning 2017, 2018, and 2021, Showerings’ cider balances the older, mature, and more characterful vintages with the newer, youthful, and fresher 2021 vintage to create a cider that is both elegant and light, yet with depth of flavour.

Showerings principally use late-season Dabinett apples, an aromatic Somerset variety and considered by many as the premier cider apple. The apples come from a single award-winning orchard in Somerset which has ideal terroir and is less than seven miles from the Showerings cider mill in Shepton Mallet.

Cool fermentation is used to create the Showering’s complex yet delicate flavour profile. This is a slow-moving maturation process where wild and house yeasts turn natural sugars into alcohol.

Each batch of cider then rests and settles for a minimum of four months, to soften the sharp edges of tannins and acidities, though it can be years before it achieves the requisite mellow fruitfulness and passes the taste test.
