Multi-award-winning Elland Brewery, in West Yorkshire, probably most famous for its 1972 Porter, is facing liquidation.

A virtual meeting of creditors is being proposed on Friday (16th February), according to a notice posted in The Gazette.

A meeting of shareholders has been called and will be held prior to the virtual meeting of creditors, to consider passing a resolution for voluntary winding up of the company.

1872 Porter is the reigning CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain, and also took the title in 2013. It is lauded as an exemplar of the style, delivering rich liquorice and chocolate flavours.

The brewery was founded as Eastwood and Sanders Fine Ales in 2002, after the amalgamation of The West Yorkshire Brewery and The Barge and Barrel Brewing Company. It was renamed Elland Brewery in 2006.
