Round Corner Brewing’s Nitro Stout, previously known as Reverend Hooker, now has a new name, the brewery has announced — Social Club.

The stout, launched in 2019, has its origin in the story of a priest who drove a cart around the brewery’s hometown of Melton Mowbray, ironically driving drinkers out of pubs.

However, as the beer travelled further, the story became less impactful. The brewery took the chance to speak with venues about a name and a vision that matched what it wanted this beer to be.

Social club is a smooth, flavoursome, and sessionable beer, which is as drinkable in summer as it is in winter, says the brewer. Round Corner Brewing wants people to come together over a pint of Social Club.

“I have been brewing nitro stouts across the world for the last 25 years, from big brands to smaller less well-known craft nitro stouts,” said Colin Paige, co-founder and chief operating officer at Round Corner Brewing.

“Social Club is the culmination of all those experiences and learnings. A style of beer I absolutely love to drink, we launched this beer in 2019 and this rebrand, we believe, fits the beer perfectly now, a beer all about good times with good friends.”

Co-founder and chief executive, Combie Cryan, added: “We are so excited about the pairing of a great, inclusive, and easy-to-recall name alongside this smooth, balanced, and unpretentious nitro stout. Every year we add more permanent venues and permanent fans of this great beer and so it already has solid foundations.

“However, we are particularly excited to see even more pints of Social Club enjoyed throughout 2024, and bringing more beer loving venues and drinkers to #JoinTheClub.”
