Round Corner Brewing has claimed four country winner medals at the 2023 World Beer Awards, with an additional four beers picking up silver and bronze medals.

Round Corner Gun Metal

The Melton Mowbray brewery has an impressive history at the awards, claiming medals every year since 2020. But this year it has excelled itself, becoming the most awarded UK brewery.

Winning the England country award for dark lager was Gunmetal. The black lager has previously won gold at the 2023 European Beer Challenge, 2020 World Beer Awards, and 2019 International Brewing Awards. Dark brown in colour, it has deep garnet highlights and a crema-like foam.

Keller pils Beneath The Streets was country winner in the class for lager Zwickl / pale kellerbier. A limited edition beer, it was first brewed this year. It has a rich, bready malt canvas, and lashings of New Zealand Pacifica hops.

Rounding off the lager winners for the brewery was Frisby. Awarded country winner in the classic pilsner category, it contains finest German pilsner malt and English wheat malt. Claiming silver at the 2022 World Beer Awards and 2023 European Beer Challenge, it’s the highest accolade for this lager so far.

10 Hours In LA, a Pacific pale ale, was speciality IPA country winner. This is Round Corner Brewing’s vision of the perfect Pacific pale ale, soft, with a restrained bitterness and tropical fruit hop aroma.

There was a silver medal for Steeplechase pale ale, and bronzes for Drovers hazy Vermont session IPA, Follow The Green Line New Zealand pale ale, and Jandals & Togs gluten-free super session pale ale.

“This makes all those early mornings and late finishes worthwhile,” said brewing director and co-founder Colin Paige. “Winning four country winners, more than any other brewery in the UK, is truly humbling.

“We founded this brewery on one overarching philosophy — that craft beer was all about the relentless pursuit of perfection, not about following fads. We are so happy that this philosophy, hard work, and dedication from our amazing brewing team has paid off.”

Co-founder and chief executive, Combie Cryan, added: “We’ve had a wonderful start to 2023, not only with awards, but by launching many new beers, hosting and attending excellent events, and spreading our love of Round Corner Brewing beer wider than ever before. We’re excited to see what the rest of the year has to offer, and we’ll raise a glass to this success.”

The team will be attending the London Craft Beer Festival this weekend and will be pouring a new Market Edition release, which is launching at the festival.
