UK video game developer Auroch Digital has revealed how its team researched and embraced craft beer culture to create Brewmaster: Beer Brewing Simulator.

Brewmaster

The game, which released in September 2022, lets players discover, learn, and master the art of homebrewing. In order to provide an authentic experience, the development team were passionate about understanding the science of brewing, the culture of the craft beer industry, and even became cicerone certified beer servers in the process.

The team drank more than 500 different beers during development in order to really understand the industry.

Through their work, the Auroch Digital team had their preconceived ideas of tasting changed and began mindfully tasting their chosen drinks, realising in the process that drinking craft beer is so much more than just having a drink. It’s a lifestyle.

Peter Willington, Production Director at Auroch Digital, said: “Before I started Brewmaster, I thought beer was all the same,” said Peter Willington, production director at Auroch Digital. “But we quickly had our assumptions challenged and soon entered into the fascinating and inviting world of beer.

“I had no idea that beer could taste like mango, dark chocolate, or bubble gum, and I came to appreciate the SRM (standard reference method) values of beer, the temperature of it, and even the glassware it’s served in.”
