The news was revealed in a Pete Brown article in the Sunday Times yesterday. Administrator Undebt is confident of finding a buyer.

The collapse is blamed on rising costs, especially those of energy and carbon dioxide. In 2017, the company raised £1.8 million on Crowdcube from more than 1,900 investors, at a £25m valuation.

Meanwhile, the closure has been announced of Twisted Wheel Brew Co, in Warrington, with the owners saying the business is now “unviable”.

In a statement on social media, Twisted Wheel said: “Having started the brewery back in February 2020, just six weeks before the first Covid lockdown, we are incredibly grateful to have been able to produce some fantastic beers through the past three years and share them with you all.

“Having made it to 2022 we had big ambitions to grow the company. However, the negative impact of Covid restrictions, coupled with the ongoing cost of living crisis, has made the business unviable.

“With sales falling, general consumer confidence low, and further increases in raw material costs projcted for 2023, we felt it best to close the business at this time.”
