Bedlam Brewery has unveiled two new beers which highlight its commitment to protecting the coastline, working with excellent local partners, and using quality ingredients.
High Tide is a 3.9% ABV pale ale celebrates Bedlam’s commitment to restoring and maintaining the coastline through active support of local beach cleans. These collect rubbish washed up following high tides.
Brewed to the same recipe as Phoenix, which won gold in the keg session IPA category at SIBA’s National Beer Awards, High Tide has been renamed to better represent the brewer’s core values and celebrate the beautiful Sussex coastline.
The hop-forward session pale is packed with flavour and citrus undertones, rounded off with a smooth, dry finish.
As members of 1% for the Planet, Bedlam Brewery donates 1% of its annual sales to local environmental and social causes.
Sales director, Danny Hoskins, said: “High Tide is another leap forward for the brewery and a fantastic addition to both our packaged and keg range.
“1% for the Planet was founded by earth-friendly Patagonia, to prevent greenwashing through certifying reputable giving and provide accountability, so shows our commitment and responsibility to the environment.”
Ground Control (4.5% ABV) is a coffee porter collaboration created with Craft House Coffee, another Sussex producer which places the environment high on its agenda.
“They do beer, we do coffee,” said Tom Larkins, of Craft House Coffee. “Both of us have a passion for the environment, and both of us work so close to each other on a farm in the heart of Sussex.”
After much talking, steeping, and coffee tasting, Bedlam head brewer Clark Coslett-Hughes chose the single origin Brazilian Fazenda Primavera coffee.
“We chose the coffee as it wasn’t a typical coffee you’d throw into a porter. It was very unique in its flavour, providing subtle notes of Black Forest gateau and fleshy fruits. The deep flavours are a perfect match!”
Bedlam have a love of music — and David Bowie — hence the beer’s name.
