Three historic London pubs — The Angel Inn, Highgate, The Mitre, Greenwich, and The Market Tavern, Shepherd Market — have re-opened after refurbishment work.
The Angel Inn, above Highgate Village, in London
The Angel Inn has all-new soft furnishings and an outdoor dining area, with the bar changing and plenty more seating. The pub, which dates back to 1888, is best known for Monty Python actor Graham Chapman going there regularly to enjoy a pint or two.
The Mitre has had a complete redecoration, a new covered and heated external space, an all-new function room, and improved bookable space. The 24-bedroom hotel attached to the historic pub is also having a full revamp and recently re-opened.
The Market Tavern, Shepherd Market
Changes at The Market Tavern include new soft furnishings, with two refurbished bars and plenty more seating. Built in 1808 and close to the original site of London’s ‘MayFair’, The Market Tavern oozes Victorian charm. The boudoir-inspired décor of its upstairs Chesterfield Room, available for private hire, is a nostalgic nod to a bye-gone era when this quaint area of London was famous for brothels and bawdy tales.
Since re-opening, the pub has also begunefforts to reduce its carbon footprint by working closely with charities such as FareShare (to help reduce food waste) and the Zero Carbon Forum.
