A look at three limited edition beers marking the Queen’s forthcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations. (If you know of more, drop me an email.)
Harvey’s Brewery has recreated the recipe for its 1953 Coronation Ale. Brewed using flaked barley, together with pale, crystal, and black malts, the result is a rounded beer called Jubilee Ale (4.2% ABV). There are undertones of dates, dried fruit, and toasted bread, offset by the subdued bitterness of traditional Sussex Fuggle and East Kent Golding hops.
The entire brew was pre-sold within 48 hours and will be delivered to customers during the week commencing 23rd May.
Head brewer, Miles Jenner, said: “This beer transcends seven decades and is the perfect way to toast a truly memorable achievement.”
Ben’s Brewery, in Chorley, Lancashire, has launched Send Her Victorious, a 4.5% ABV golden IPA. Brewed using Best Ale malt, Caramalt, torrified wheat, and torrified oats, it has been hopped with Admiral, Olicana, Centennial, and Archer.
Fuller’s will release Platinum Jubilee Ale (4.7% ABV) in June. The beer will be malty and sweet, with rich fruitcake notes. To add an extra layer of richness, blackberry juice has been added.
It is being dry hopped with classic English hop Sovereign, bringing grassy, spicy, and minty floral notes to the aroma and taste.
