Oakham Ales has worked with Stamford College graphic design students to create names and matching pumpclip artwork for three forthcoming cask beers.
Following the success of a previous collaboration three years ago, the brewery is delighted to be working with a new cohort of students.
Nick Jones, Oakham Ales’ off-trade and export manager, who masterminded the project brief, said: “From the initial briefing session, through to the finalisation of the students’ designs, we were hugely impressed with how the whole group embraced the project, and the imagination and hard work they displayed in developing their designs in response to our feedback.
“Not only did we finish up with a superb design for our November beer, as planned, but we’ve also used two further student-designed pumpclips for a pair of the new Oakham Ales cask-aged beers that will be launched over the summer.”
Graphic design lecturer Pam Mairs led the collaboration for Stamford College and is excited about what the project means to those involved. She said: “Working with Oakham Ales has been a fantastic opportunity for my students to create original artwork for a real business and to gain experience in pitching artwork to potential clients.”
The beers and the designs
Echo is a cask-aged porter with a rich malt base. Hints of toffee sweetness from the malts are complemented by a spectrum of fruit flavours from an imaginative blend of hops. The artwork was created by Jordon Vellam. Echo will be available in June 2022.
Yonder is an cask-aged IPA that has herbal and tropical fruit notes balanced with a soft grapefruit bitterness. This pumpclip was designed by Lauren Toynton. It will be available in July 2022.
Eclipse is a pale ale combining two of Oakham’s favourite Slovenian hop varieties, Wolf and Savinjski Goldings to create a refreshing beer with lemon, mango, and floral characters. Jennifer Martin developed the pumpclip design. Eclipse is available in November 2022.
