Tickets have gone on sale for the first Maltings X Vessel Craft Beer Festival, in the historical Tuckers Maltings, Newton Abbot, on 12th and 13th November.
A collaboration festival run by Maltings Taphouse, of Newton Abbot, and Plymouth’s Vessel Beer Shop, this will be the biggest craft beer festival held in Devon or Cornwall since 2019.
Sam Congdon, owner of Vessel Beer Shop, said: “After two years of uncertainty for small independent businesses, we are very excited to working with a fellow beer shop to bring 26 of best of UK craft breweries to Devon for a celebration.”
Vessel Beer Shop previously organised the Vessel Beer Festival, in Plymouth Guildhall in 2018 and 2019, which gained national recognition in The Guardian (top 10 most scenic beer festivals) as well as attracting craft beer fans from across the UK and as far as northern France.
Josh Pitt, manager of Maltings Taphouse and Bottle Shop, said: “This is a great opportunity for beer lovers to come to the old Tuckers Maltings site in Newton Abbot, which has great transport links with the whole region, and try amazing beers from our favourite national and local craft breweries.”
Sam added: “We believe that good beer can be enjoyed by everyone — it doesn’t have to be for a particular type of person. This is a brilliant opportunity to try a great range of beers, and chat to fellow beer lovers as well as people in the industry.”
The line-up will include high-profile UK breweries, such as Verdant, from Cornwall, Deya (Cheltenham), and Siren (Reading). It will also feature exciting new breweries, including Newtown Park, Rock Leopard, and Pipeline.
Everything will be served by the breweries, so festival-goers can chat to the people who made their beer. There will be stouts, IPAs, pale ales, sours, and lots in between to sample throughout the festival weekend, with a promise that every beer will be available for the start of every session.
Alongside the breweries, there will be other drink offerings for people who are not yet beer fans, including cider and spirits. A range of local food businesses will also be in attendance.
About the venue
The venue hosting the festival is Tuckers Maltings, which until 2018 had produced malt for the beer industry since 1900 and was one of the last remaining maltings that produced malt for using the traditional method of floor malting.
Tuckers Maltings is owned by Edwin Tucker & Sons Ltd, and the building is renowned for hosting beer festivals since the mid-1990s, when more traditional cask beer festivals have taken place.
Tuckers managing director, Jonathan Webber, said: “Over many years beer drinkers have travelled from far and wide to the venue and taken in the atmosphere of this historic building while enjoying a well-crafted beer.
“To be able to host a new kind of festival here after such a long time is a real pleasure, and we hope this can be the start of more exciting events and activities taking place within this historic and unique setting.”

There are four five-hour sessions taking place: Friday afternoon (11am to 4pm) and Friday evening (5pm to 10pm), Saturday afternoon (11am to 4pm) and Saturday evening (5pm to 10pm).
