Sharp’s Brewery is supporting this year’s Cask Ale Week, which runs until 3rd October, and is calling on consumers to visit pubs and choose cask ale.
Sharp’s cask beers include Doom Bar, the UK’s best-selling cask ale, and Atlantic, an award-winning modern pale ale.
This week, Sharp’s is joining forces with Stonegate’s City Taverns and Town Pub & Kitchen divisions to launch a competition to win a two-night staycation for two people at a four-star hotel in Rock, Cornwall, with £100 food and drink allowance and £100 travel expenses. There are also four Doom Bar hampers up for grabs as runners-up prizes.
In addition, Stonegate’s Proper Pubs division will be running a similar competition with a staycation to be won and ten free pints per outlet, while Classic Inns has a loyalty card promotion, offering pubgoers their sixth pint of Doom Bar for free when they buy five pints, four of which must be Doom Bar as a minimum.
Sharp’s resident beer sommelier, Ed Hughes, said: “We know food and drink is a passion for many of our drinkers and we have worked hard over the years to champion how beer and food can be the perfect match, transforming perceptions of beer to be more than just a great pint.”
James Nicholls, Sharp’s marketing controller, added: “Cask is best experienced through Doom Bar, the definitive cask ale. I love the extraordinary complexity of flavour you only find with cask. The succulent balance of malty, biscuity sweetness, countered by the crisp, bitter edge of the resinous hop, all vying for your attention in a harmonious crescendo on your tastebuds.
“The tickle of that bright, tight bubbled foam as it nestles into your top lip, the texture and extra bite of the magical hop esters as they combine with the beer, and the mesmerizing lacing of the glass down to the end of the pint. For me, it’s uniquely delicious and the ultimate satisfying beer style. Take me to the pub.”
