Six Sheffield beers will be centre stage in a virtual tasting scheduled to take place after CAMRA’s annual meeting and conference in April.

In normal times, the AGM and conference would have been part of the annual members’ weekend, which was due to be staged in the Steel City.

However, the local CAMRA branch has come up with six of the best beers the area has to offer for the virtual tasting, on 17th April.

What’s in the box?

Neepsend Brewery: Acadia (3.9% ABV, New England session pale)
“An excellent opener, a fine example from this brewery, who continue to quietly brew an ever-increasing range of hop-forward beers.” (Sheffield CAMRA notes)

Kelham Island Brewery: Pale Rider (5.2% ABV, premium golden ale)
“The oldest established brewery in Sheffield. Pale Rider, 2004 winner of CAMRA champion beer of Britain, is a full-bodied straw pale ale, with a good fruity aroma and a strong fruit and hop taste. Its well-balanced sweetness and bitterness continue in the finish.”

Intrepid Brewing Co: Stanage (4.5% ABV, oatmeal stout)
Intrepid commenced brewing in 2014 on an eight-barrel plant. There are four core beers plus seasonal specials. Stanage, named after Stanage Edge, the training ground for the world’s best rock climbers, is a classic oatmeal stout.

Triple Point Brewing: Dyad #4 (5.2% ABV, New England IPA)
“Launched in March 2019, a father and son-operated modern brewery and bar. Dyad #4 is a new beer following a similar style to Debut, a beer which won champion beer of Sheffield 2019 in a blind tasting led by Roger Protz. Its hop combinations of Cryo Simcoe and Hallertau Blank provide the freshest and fullest flavours possible.”

Bradfield Brewery: Belgian Blue (4.9% ABV)
“One of the largest breweries in Sheffield, it is based on a working farm in the Peak District, using pure Millstone Grit spring water. Belgian Blue is a winter favourite, with berry overtones and a slight blue tint. Some people queue up before the pubs open as it becomes available — you’ll either love it or hate it!”

Abbeydale Brewery: Black Mass (6.66% ABV, stout)
“Abbeydale is the second oldest and one of the largest breweries in Sheffield. Recent investment has enabled growth. At least one new beer is produced weekly. Black Mass is rarely seen — it is a strong black stout with complex roast flavours and a lasting bitter finish.”
