The results of the World Beer Awards are in, with more than 2,200 beers judged across nine style categories.
Judging this time had to take place via Zoom, with beers shipped to judges around the world, black wrapped to hide the brews’ identities.
Chair of the judges, Adrian Tierney-Jones, said: “This year’s winners in the World Beer Awards demonstrate the verve and vitality of brewers and their wonderful beers around the globe.
“The category winners are to be congratulated on their successes, but I would also like to thank the judges in the UK, Germany, North America, Japan, and Brazil for the dedication and professionalism they have shown, especially during these challenging times.”
As well as taste quality, design excellence was also judged, chaired by Felicity Murray, founder of TheDrinksReport.com.
Among the breweries celebrating is Devon’s Black Tor, whose Devonshire Pale Ale was named wold’s best English-style pale ale. The beer also won its country award, and there was a silver, too, for Pride of Dartmoor. “Great news, winning our first World Beer Awards,” said managing director Jonathan Crump.
Big Drop Brewing’s Pine Trail pale ale scored a first for an alcohol-free beer by winning a world’s best at the World Beer Awards for a second time. The 0.5% ABV beer came top in the category for pale beers below 2.5% ABV, just as it did in 2017.
And it wasn’t the only one of Big Drop’s beers to win a coveted world’s best — its popular Galactic Milk Stout was judged favourite in the flavoured low-alcohol category.
