Chef Jack Stein and St Austell Brewery’s trainee beer sommelier, Laura Hicks, are to lead a night of food and beer tasting on Thursday, February 27.

The event will be hosted at St Austell Brewery’s pub, the Cornish Arms, in St Merryn, which has been on lease to the Stein family for more than a decade.

The evening will feature tasters of dishes created by Jack and will be matched with St Austell’s most celebrated Cornish beers, as well as a few limited-edition brews from the Small Batch range, too.

Throughout the night Jack and Laura will introduce each tasting course with a different beer. Coupled with Jack’s guidance on the courses, Laura will introduce diners to a broad spectrum of beer styles.

Jack said: “I’m delighted to have developed a series of recipes to match with a variety of Cornish beers, from clean, crisp and refreshing Korev to the big, bold, and hoppy taste of Proper Job. I’m really looking forward to co-hosting this event, at my family’s pub, and showing people how they can create the ideal flavour matches for their favourite beers when cooking at home.”

Laura added: “It’s not all about wine when it comes to complementing food. The nuanced flavours in beer have the power to enhance a range of flavours. We’re really excited to be hosting this event, in collaboration with Jack, to give people the opportunity to experience the art of food and beer pairing for themselves.”

• The event starts at 6.30pm. Tickets are £20 and are now available from rickstein.com/events-and-experiences/events-with-jack-stein/
