Salcombe Brewery Co’s Island Street Porter has been named champion beer by Taste of The West at its award ceremony in Exeter.
Island Street Porter (5.9% ABV), is a rich, velvety porter that was launched earlier this year and which has gone on to win a multitude of awards in its short history.
Brewer, Sam Beaman, said: “We created Island Street Porter to contrast with our hop-driven beers and it became an instant hit with consumers in search of a beer with bags of flavour.
“Its popularity has gone from strength to strength in its first year and it has gained gold awards from both SIBA (The Society of Independent Brewers) and Taste of the West. Being crowned champion beer at the award ceremony last week was the icing on the cake.”
Island Street Porter’s blend of eight malts produce hints of dark chocolate, coffee, and black cherry, which, combined with British hops, create an aroma reminiscent of Black Forest gateau.
Sam added: “Creating a new beer is an exciting process in itself, but when the public reaction is so positive and it goes on to win so many awards, judged by industry experts, then the feeling of pride is immense. The feedback we have received so far has been outstanding, and I am confident that this won’t be the last award that our fabulous porter wins.”
This year, more than 1,000 products were entered into the Taste of the West Awards.
