Black Sheep Brewery is paying homage to its home town of Masham, North Yorkshire, with the launch of its latest seasonal ale, Square 1.
Square 1 has been created in recognition of Masham’s market square, which is Yorkshire’s largest market square. The 3.4% ABV session pale ale will be available in pubs and bars throughout the UK from May 22 to June 30.
It is brewed with caramalt and malted oats, with Chinook, Citra and Amarillo hops, to give Square 1 a citrus aroma, crisp bitterness and solid body.
Masham’s market square received its first charter from Henry III in 1251, and it is renowned for hosting markets twice weekly over the course of the year.
Jo Theakston (pictured), sales and marketing director at Black Sheep Brewery, said: “We are proud of our home town, and Square 1 is our latest celebration of Masham, and on this occasion its renowned market square.
“The name also complements the Black Sheep brewing process and our use of Yorkshire Square fermenters, which continue to produce great Yorkshire beers time and time again.
“As a low-ABV session ale, we are expecting Square 1 to be a hit among drinkers as we gear up for the warmer weather and, of course, quality time in the beer garden!”
