Marstons 61 DeepMarston’s has given its flagship beer Pedigree, brewed in Burton-on-Trent, a makeover, and announced a new pale ale, 61 Deep, for 2017.

The new-look Pedigree features George Peard on the label, head brewer at the time that Pedigree was named in 1952. He ran a staff competition to think of a name for his best-selling beer and Marjorie Newbold, from the typing pool, came up with the winning suggestion.

It has a fascinating aroma, with a palate of biscuit malt, spicy hops and light fruitiness, says the brewer, and is the perfect accompaniment to darker meats, pork pies, sausage and mash, steak pie and Sunday roasts.

61 Deep is the newest brew on the Burton block. Sixty-one metres is the depth of the well at the Burton-on-Trent brewery that gives this refreshing pale ale its name.

The five American and Australian hops give it its fresh, zesty aroma, whilst the tropical fruit and citrus notes make it extremely drinkable.

It’s the perfect accompaniment to spicy chilli, Mexican foods and fruity desserts such as lemon torte. It will be available in spring 2017.
