A summer of celebration has been planned to mark 50 years of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in Norfolk.
From trips out to the Norfolk pubs featured in the Good Beer Guide 50 years ago, to walking tours, there are lots of events coming up.
The highlight of the festivities will be a 50th anniversary party at the Beehive pub, on Saturday, 1st August — and everyone is invited! There’ll be a great selection of real ale, cider, and all the usual drinks on the bar, plus a charity barbecue, organised by the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB). Proceeds from that will be donated to the Nancy Oldfield Trust, who offer accessible pursuits and accommodation for disabled and socially disadvantaged people on the Norfolk Broads.
There will also be an anniversary beer, of course — a collaboration with All Day Brewing. Brew day is set for August, and the beer should be ready for Norwich Beer Festival, in October.
“You don’t need to be a CAMRA member to join in,” said Lucy Cousins, chair of Norwich and District CAMRA. “If you’re someone who loves pubs, history, beer, or cider, you’re very welcome!
“We’re really looking forward to celebrating this huge milestone for CAMRA in Norfolk. As well as campaigning for real ale, we’ve been supporting pubs for more than 50 years, so it’s only right that we make them part of our celebrations.
“We’re planning to visit lots of wonderful pubs this summer, on walking tours of Norwich and on coach trips across Norfolk. CAMRA members can save money on tickets and non-members are welcome, too. If you love real ale, cider and pubs, we’d love you to come along to our 50th anniversary events and help us to celebrate!”
