I’ve enjoyed many great beers from Williams Bros, in Scotland over the years, particularly their IPAs, and they kindly sent me their new Ceilidh lager to try.

Williams Bros Ceilidh

The 4.7% ABV brew is made using Scottish barley, there’s soft Scottish water in the recipe, too, along with traditional (in lager terms) Hallertau hops and, for a bit of a twist, Tango variety.

It’s fermented slow, as a proper lager should be, and cold conditioned for an extended period.

So, how is it? Well, to me, its very, very good. Against a light background of bready malt, the hops offer a spicy, herbal flavour, with some lemon citrus edging its way in. It’s smooth, full-bodied, refreshing, conditioned beautifully, and jolly moreish.

The boy and I have had two cans between us; I wish there were more.
