Crisp Malt have revealed that 3,662kg of waste malt sacks were recycled through their Return A Bag scheme in 2025.

Since launching the scheme in July 2025, 32 breweries have signed up and helped to recycle more than 3 tonnes of waste malt sacks.
Through Crisp Malt’s first recycling scheme, launched in 2024, 6,178kg of sacks were recycled. That brings the total recycled so far to 9,840kg, between breweries up and down the country.
“Collecting all of our empty malt sacks on a pallet and getting it shipped off is very straightforward,” said Sam, from Howling Hops Brewery. “Amazing that the recycling is free as well!
“We have found that tying the bags into ‘logs’ and neatly stacking them is easier to handle, stack, and creates less dust. This method is almost the most space efficient and therefore cost effective for transporting the waste, maximising the weight of each pallet.”
