An exhibition has opened at Ely Museum, in Cambridgeshire, charting a history of brewing in East Anglia since Anglo Saxon times.

Making alcoholic drinks out of fermented grain has a long history in East Anglia, from prehistory and the Vikings through to the many small inns and pubs that brewed their own beer.
Then family breweries came along, like Legge and Hall and Harlock, then the increasingly large and commercial companies who ran the Forehill Brewery.
The exhibition invites visitors to also learn more about the ingredients and how they’ve changed, and take a sniff at some of the odours of the process.
It runs until 26th April, 2026.
