A barrel-aged version of a Baltic porter originally brewed by Orbit Beers in 2022, in collaboration with Utopian Brewery, is to launch tomorrow (12th November).

After the original brew, a portion of the porter was placed into Heaven Hill oak barrels at Orbit where, with a house blend of Brettanomyces, it has aged for 35 months.
The limited edition brew, which comes in at 9.7% ABV, will be available via the Orbit Beers webshop and at the Orbit Beers Taproom, as well as other selected stockists.
Pouring a rich chestnut brown with a velvety texture, the beer has a complex sourness and a distinctive, vinous character. Roasted malts from the original brew still linger on the palate, while the aroma offers toasted hazelnuts, dark chocolate, forest fruits, oak, and tobacco.
You’ll find layers of dried fruit, subtle spices, and a peppery finish, all wrapped in the earthy, rustic character of Brett. The result is a complex flavour profile with a dry finish that remains surprisingly light for its strength.
“Here at Orbit Beers, we celebrate patience,” said general manager Robbie Sykes. “The patience needed to spend hours flipping through records, hoping to find a rare gem to add to your collection. The patience needed to age beer in wood, extracting the character of the barrel or waiting for wild yeast and bacteria to perform their magic; or in bottle, enhancing the complexity and roundness of flavour.
“These beers are celebrated in our Digger’s Series range, with two or three limited releases throughout the year, on this occasion, just in time for the festive season.”
