Tintagel Brewery’s flagship old ale, Caliburn, has reached the finals of the Champion Beer of Britain competition, to be judged in Birmingham next week.

The beer earned its place in the national spotlight after being crowned category winner for brown ales, red ales, old ales, and strong milds at the Great British Beer Festival Winter, held earlier this year.

Caliburn has already proven itself a champion, having won a Taste of the West gold award in 2024, along with gold and category champion honours at SIBA’s South West Independent Beer Awards in the spring.

Named after the legendary sword of King Arthur, Caliburn is a rich, dark ale, brewed with Cornish spring water and English hops. Smooth, full-bodied, and balanced, it offers warming notes of roasted malt, caramel, and dark fruit.

“For a small independent brewery, this means the world,” said Simon Thresh, managing director of Tintagel Brewery. “We’ve always believed in brewing beer with character — rooted in local legend and crafted with care. To see Caliburn recognised at this level is a huge honour.”
