Authentic Czech lager will be the focus when The Stranded pub opens its doors on London’s Strand this Wednesday (2nd July).

The venue has a 13-metre Czech-built bar, specialist side-pour taps, and a fierce respect for well-kept glassware.
Created by Bloomsbury Leisure Group, the team behind iconic venues across Manchester, London, and Bristol, The Stranded will be serving up Budvar lagers, including Budvar Original, Nefiltr (unfiltered), Dark, and 0.0%.
The traditional Czech side-pour tap is a tool rarely seen in the UK. Instead of the usual vertical handle, this sideways tap opens like a throttle. It allows the tapster to pour quickly and with control, creating the dense, wet foam that’s essential to a perfect Czech pour.
The side-pour faucet aerates the beer as it flows, thanks to a small screen inside the spout, producing a creamy, silky head that seals in freshness and lets the hops shine. The longer spout is designed to be submerged in the beer as the glass fills, giving the tapster total control over the balance of beer and foam.
Tapsters at The Stranded will offer three different pours:
- Hladinka: a full pour with a generous layer of silky foam on top, smooth and balanced;
- Šnyt: a smaller pour with more foam, often enjoyed when one wants a lighter drink; and
- Mlíko: a mug of wet, sweet foam, a favourite in Czech pubs.
Alongside its Czech lagers, The Stranded will offer five rotating keg lines and four cask ale lines, with the same level of respect and passion applied, following in the footsteps of acclaimed sister pubs like Euston Tap and Piccadilly Tap.
“The Stranded is more than a new pub — it’s a fresh standard for lager, an education in pouring, and a love letter to beer done properly,” said Jon Dalton, founder and director of Bloomsbury Leisure Group.
“We think there’s an appetite from London’s lager drinkers for this, and can’t wait to deliver delicious beer that’s treated with the respect it deserves.”
