Cornish Orchards’ cider production is now powered by 100% renewable energy sources, achieving up to a 94% reduction in carbon emissions without offsetting.

The Asahi-owned business has switched to fully renewable energy at its cider farm in Duloe, south east Cornwall, completely removing the use of fossil fuels to power the site.

The company is also looking to help Cornish nature. It has planted four acres of woodland, with an additional 21 acres planned this year, and is partnering with Cornwall Wildlife Trust as a reserve guardian to help boost pollinator populations in the county.

This comes as Cornish Orchards launches a new advertising campaign, under the banner of ‘Cider You Can Trust’. This will be across multiple channels, aiming to reach 6 million consumers and 58% of all cider drinkers.

“When making our cider, the things we prioritise most are quality and authenticity,” said Chris Newton, head cider maker at Cornish Orchards. “We aim to make the best-tasting cider with quality ingredients that our drinkers can trust.

“For me, this goes hand in hand with sustainability. True quality should transcend the product itself and include the positive impact it can have to the planet.

“We take an honest approach with everything we do. We do not use any apple concentrate when making our cider, and now we don’t use any fossil fuels either! Our founder’s ethos was to ‘do simple things, with natural ingredients in a way that is kind to the environment’ and that still stands true today.”
