Swannay Brewery, of Birsay, Orkney, are celebrating being named overall keg champion in the SIBA Independent Beer Awards for Orkney Porter.

“It really is a super accolade and high praise for the beer, holding its own and excelling against beers from breweries of all sizes up and down the UK,” said Lewis Hill, son of Swannay Brewery founder Rob Hill.
He said it was testament to his father’s mission for the brewery from day one — to make world class Orkney beers.
“Orkney Porter is a luscious 9% ABV beer fermented slow in the winter months with Swannay house yeast,” added Lewis. “It uses a blend of coloured malts and classic, noble hops to make an incredibly drinkable, complex, and balanced beer, despite its strength.
“In the competition overall, all the overall winners were from Scotland this year. Congratulations to our brewing peers.”
