Organised by a team of beer-loving volunteers, Beer Debunked is a not-for-profit event, giving participants a chance to learn, collaborate, taste beer, and raise funds for charity partner Nottingham Women’s Centre.

“This one-day event across three Castle Rock venues is aimed at anyone keen to champion Nottingham’s beer scene and celebrate women in beer,” said Lucy Simons, co-founder of the No Half Measures Collective and event partner Let’s Beer. “Different sessions throughout the day are designed to craft a brilliant beer experience for all.

“We kick off the day with Serious Beer Business session, which includes a stellar line-up of women in beer from near and far, talking about diversity in beer, building beer drinking confidence by judging competitions, and creating safe spaces in venues.

“Plus, we’ll have an update on the work of the Women on Tap project. This is stuff that matters and needs talking about to make the beer scene welcoming to everyone.”

The first session will feature a keynote address by Amelie Tassin, founder of Edinburgh’s Women In Beer and the Women in Beer Mentorship Programme. She will be joined by panellists from the UK’s beer scene. The main session is ideal for representatives of all genders from breweries, bars, and other hospitality settings, plus enthusiastic drinkers who would like to influence positive change within the beer industry.

Later in the afternoon, two tasting workshops will be run by two of the best beer educators in the UK. Natalya Watson, from Wines and Spirits Education Trust, will take novice and experienced beer drinkers through A Systematic Approach to Tasting Beer. For those interested in the more technical brewing side, hop merchant BarthHaas X’s Joanne Love will be showcasing beers made using her company’s liquid hop products, providing insights into how different products bring different characteristics to beer.

Lucy added: “To round off a brilliant beer experience for all, we hope everyone will join us at an after party at The Newshouse. We’ll have a carefully curated beer list featuring beers No Half Measures have helped to brew in the run-up to the event. Plus, there will be live music from fellow beer lover and local act Tash Bird, as well as a raffle for Nottingham Women’s Centre, with ace beery prizes.”

Beer Debunked takes place in three Castle Rock pubs, all within a few minutes walk of Nottingham railway station: The Canalhouse, The Barley Twist, and The Newshouse. Tickets for Serious Beer Business and the tastings are £15 per person. Entry to the after party is free with an event ticket, or £5 on the door.

Event sponsors include: The Abdication micropub, The Safer Food Group, Murphy & Sons, Castle Rock Brewery, Brew Tavern, Wine and Spirits Education Trust, BarthHaas X, Left Lion, Blue Monkey Brewery, Lenton Lane Brewery, Neon Raptor Brewing Co, and Black Iris Brewery.

Tickets can be booked through Eventbrite. More details about the event can be found on the Let’s Beer website.
