The Golden Lion in Rossett, Wrexham, has raised £3,370 for Hope House Children’s Hospices through numerous events staged in November and December.

The pub raised more than £6,000 for numerous charities last year, including another hospice — Tŷ Gobaith in Conwy — as well as supporting Prostate Cancer UK and other local community-based causes.
The money was raised through a series of popular pub quiz events, including the Golden Lion’s annual Big Fat Quiz of the Year, a sell-out event held between Christmas and New Year.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of our regular customers and local community who, once again, got right behind us as they always do, including some generous anonymous donations,” said general manager Allan Parrington.
“I never imagined we would raise such an amazing amount, and it has inspired us as a team to continue our support of Hope House in 2025.”
Cat Dowdeswell, fundraising team leader at Hope House, said: “I take my hat off to Allan and all the team for their hard work. We cannot wait to see what happens in 2025. Thank you so much.”
Adam Mayers, managing director of Hydes Brewery, which owns the pub, said: “The Golden Lion is at the heart of the community in Rossett. Hydes fully supports the charity efforts of all of the pubs across its estate, and events such as the fundraising programme run by Allan and his team help our pubs to continue to be an integral part of community life.”
