Suffolk-based Nethergate Brewery — home of the famous Old Growler beer — has submitted a planning application for an ambitious expansion project.
How the Nethergate site would look
The plans focus on a recently-acquired eight-acre field adjacent to the brewery. The new site will help Nethergate Brewery tackle practical challenges, such as providing additional parking for visitors to both the brewery and the neighbouring Country Park, as well as creating much-needed production space.
Features of the planning application include:
- A new café and a larger, improved shop and visitor taproom
- A children’s play area, creating a more family-friendly destination
- Environmentally-friendly initiatives, such as an electric car charging station and a ground source heat pump
“This is a really exciting new chapter for us,” said brewery general manager Rob Crawford. “We’re committed to growing our business in a way that benefits our community and visitors.
“These plans not only address practical needs, such as parking and production space, but also present an opportunity to create something special that enhances the village’s charm and attraction.”
The brewery, owned by more than 100 shareholders and supported by more than 1,000 members — most of whom are local residents — has actively engaged with stakeholders to ensure the plans align with community expectations.
