Pubs could land a multi-million pound windfall as Britain heads to a heatwave, according to the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA).
Landlords and pub staff around the country could pull an extra 7 million pints as pub-goers head to beer gardens, and pocket a potential 19% uplift in sales.
The projected boost is based on comparing sales from a week in September 2023, which experienced similarly sunny weather.
Over this period, pubs sold 7.1m more pints than they did in an average week for the rest of that month. At today’s prices that would generate additional turnover of £34.2m.
“Nothing says summer more than a pint in your local beer garden, and many Brits will be raising a glass to some much-needed warm weather,” said Andrew Tighe, director of strategy and policy at the BBPA.
“After months of wet weather, this projected windfall could bring a ray of sunshine for pubs everywhere and help raise profits for a sector that plays a unique and important role in our culture and communities up and down the UK.
“Pubs are an essential part of the British bank holiday, and the BBPA urges everyone to make the most of the sunny weather by visiting their local pub.”
Double IPA 58bpm (8% ABV) from Polly’s is a ‘distant cousin’ to their Circadian Rhythm, which was named after the brewer’s disturbed sleep patterns from their 7am to 8pm work days. There’s an almost identical hop bill of Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, and, this time, Azacca, albeit this time charged up to 23g/l in the dry hop. “This is a DIPA of insane flavour intensity,” says the brewer. “Expect stonefruits, mango, pineapple, and just a hint of grapefruit throughout.”
Fortitude, Bristol Beer Factory’s 4% ABV amber beer, is back in can. Smooth, balanced, and moreish, it is packed with British malts and British hops.
