McColl’s Brewery, of Bishop Auckland, are celebrating two stars at the Great Taste Awards for its 4% ABV session IPA Mellow.

McColls Mellow

Made with Golden Promise malt and Citra hops, the easy drinking IPA — described as “hop-forward with some truly punchy tropical flavours” — was a big hit with the judges.

“We are thrilled to have won a Great Taste award for our Mellow session IPA,” said Danny McColl, of McColl’s Brewery.

“The award means a lot to us and we are so proud to be adding the prestigious black and gold Great Taste badge of honour to our IPA.

“Being recognised with a Great Taste 2-star means so much to independent producers such as ourselves, as it makes all the hard work and determination worth it!

“Great Taste is the most recognised accolade for taste and quality in the food and drink industry, so it’s a huge moment for us!”

Established in 2016 by Danny and Gemma McColl, the brewery was created to bring their North East warmth, a love of easy-drinking beers, and their passion for open and welcoming hospitality into being.

The brewery houses a 32 hectolitre kit, capable of making more than 6,000 pints per batch. The company produces a wide variety of easy-drinking craft beers.

Amity Brew Co has collaborated with Indie Rabble Brewing Co on Fiesta (4.3% ABV), described as a Mexican lager and lime. “Fresh lime peel in the boil and lime zest in the dry hop, combined with our favourite lime-boosting Motueka hops, delivers a citrus explosion just perfect for a hot summer day!” say the brewers.
