The festival, opening at 5pm on Friday (2nd August) at Triple Point’s Sheffield city centre site, will feature a line-up of 27 award-winning beers from top Yorkshire and North East breweries. There will also be live music throughout the night.

Before the festivities kick off, a panel of experts from across the UK will judge the 96 beers submitted by 29 breweries from across the region.

“We’re really excited to be partnering with Triple Point for the first of what will become our annual Independent Regional Keg Beer Awards,” said SIBA North East regional chairman, Joe Joyce.

“It’s great that Triple Point volunteered to host the competition and subsequent festival, and we hope it’s a big success.”

Festival-goers will have the unique opportunity to purchase the award-winning beers. There will be a limited supply of one keg of each beer available.

Alex Barlow, head brewer at Triple Point Brewery, added: “We’re incredibly proud to be hosting this competition and beer festival.

“Sheffield is known as the ‘the Real Ale Capital of the World’, so hosting the Independent Regional Keg Beer Awards, the winner’s night, and supplying winning beers to Abbeydale Road Beer Festival makes it feel even more special.

“We can’t wait to try all the phenomenal beers with craft beer lovers from all over the city.”

NEWS IN BRIEF

Originally brewed with Yvan De Baets from Brasserie De La Senne, there’s a new release d New Alliance pale ale (4.5% ABV), from Burning Sky. The modern Anglo-Belgian brew represents both breweries’ love of crisp pale ales, with a high proportion of spelt aiding the dryness. Also new from Burning Sky is Compass Points East (5.5% ABV), the start of a new series of mixed fermentation barrel-aged beers, based on the brewer’s seasonal rustic beers. There’s also the next in the series of fruit editions of the barrel-aged Petite (3.5% ABV), this time the Framboise version.
