Pomona Island is launching the first three releases from its Mixed Fermentation Project, which got under way in 2021.

The brewer has spent three years brewing, experimenting with different yeast strains, toying around with adjuncts, ageing in small-batch barrels, taste testing, and refining.
“Today, we proudly launch the first three releases from the project, founded in passion and experimentation,” says the brewer.
“These are nuanced and delicately balanced beers. Ales that have been fermented and aged to perfection, then released in small batches or blended to compliment and accentuate the character of each barrel.
“We have created ales with wild, funky, yet incredibly clean profiles, showcasing unique aroma and flavour combinations.”
The beers
Crusta (11% ABV)
A whisky sour-inspired wild lemon sour ale, aged in bourbon barrels. Deep vanilla oak tones run through a sharp, sour lemon base, with a vein of heady funk. (Brewery notes)
Oval Portrait (7.4% ABV)
A bretted amber ale aged in calvados and cognac barrels. Rich dark malts combine with dark spirit casks to give aromas of apple strudel and brandy with a funky finish.
Avenue de Goeblins (10% ABV)
A Manhattan Sour-inspired wild cherry ale aged in sweet vermouth and rye whiskey barrels. Sweet cherry flesh with marzipan notes, ginger cake and herbal vermouth, with a dry bretted aroma.
