Beer Today has its 20th anniversary in 2024. I love doing it, updating news on independent brewers and venues daily. Interacting with other folk who love and support our great independent brewers and venues as much as I do.
But this summer I will be giving its future some serious consideration.
I have great plans:
- an independent beer and venue guide online
- upgrading from website to app
- adding a podcast (specifically to include those who find viewing a website difficult)
- a monthly print newspaper
- collating sales data from independent venues (as against national managed and tenanted, pubco premises)
- embracing TikTok as well as the current Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Threads updates
- Offering competitive, sector-specific press release and copywriting services (which I have 45 years’ experience of!).
My chosen avenue of income is Patreon support, specifically because I don’t want to cover the site in ads. In a previous life I worked at what is the owner of many ‘Live’ news websites around the country, and I find these a nightmare to navigate. Something I don’t wish to force on my own audience. So Patreon it is.
Problem is, there are not enough Patreon supporters. I’m going to give it a month or so on the back of a campaign beginning today. I’ll also consider outside investment, or even a sale (I appreciate it would be a quite a sought-after domain).
If you can, please consider becoming a Patreon supporter. Commercial supporters are mentioned now on every news story page, have their social media liked and shared very regularly, have access to share commercial editorial (advertorial) on the site, will get discounted advertising within the proposed print newspaper, and, indeed, get a copy of the newspaper.
Individual supporters, at £1.50 a month, are valued and very welcome, and will get a free copy of the newspaper when I have enough support to make it viable.
