Joule’s Brewery has expanded its presence in Birmingham with the acquisition of The New Inn, in the city’s Harborne district.

From Wednesday (22nd May), patrons at The New Inn can enjoy Joule’s extensive selection of beers on tap, including flagship English craft lager, Green Monkey. The brew has become a favourite across all 42 of the brewery’s Taphouses, including several nearby establishments, such as the Crown Inn, in Codsall, The Duke of York, in Lichfield, and the Boldmere Tap, in Sutton Coldfield.
New landlords Adrian Walsh and Bernadette Quigley are taking a couple of days to prepare before throwing open the doors under the new Joule’s ownership.
Nestled in the heart of Harborne, The New Inn is known for its lively ambiance and events, such as live music acts and quizzes. It will be ‘twinned’ with Joule’s Red Lion site in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
“We are delighted to add The New Inn, Harborne, into our estate, it’s a pub we have admired for many years,” said Vicky Colclough, Joule’s managing director.
“Bringing Joule’s beer to Harborne is a milestone for the brewery. We look forward to working to understand the future Taphouse and how we can invest to make it even more special.”
Anna Brakel, Joule’s development director, added: “We understand the importance of patience, community engagement, and preserving The New Inn’s unique spirit before implementing any significant changes.
“Our priority is to honour its heritage and uncover its hidden treasures. So don’t expect major alterations just yet — we’re keen to immerse ourselves in the pub’s atmosphere first.”
The acquisition was facilitated by Matt Phillips, of Matthew Phillips Surveyors.
